Transportation and Directions to:

Participating organizations have set aside a limited amount of funds to help with the costs of attending the Summer Institute.
  • Priority will be given to diocesan directors and their staff, particularly those who are new to the work, whose office budgets are quite modest, whose travel costs are especially high, and who have not previously taken part in the Summer Institute.

  • Consideration will also be given to “key parish social justice personnel,” those who work closely with or are the primary parish links for diocesan social justice offices.

| The Social Action Summer Institute is a cooperative effort of five national social action organizations:
The ROUNDTABLE

The ROUNDTABLE is the Association of Diocesan Social Action Directors. The ROUNDTABLE conducts an Annual Symposium, and provides for exchange of information among its members through events, its newsletter, and via email and phone contact among its members. The ROUNDTABLE also undertakes projects such as the drafting of Standards and Expectations for DSAO’s, Choose Life! Building Opposition to the Death Penalty, and Public Discipleship, its program for the development of lay leadership in public life. Mr. Jeffry Korgen, Mrs. Aida Rodriguez (212) 431-7825.

USCCB/Department of Social Development
and World Peace

The Department of Social Development and World Peace of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops helps the US bishops and their staffs share the social teaching of the Church, apply Catholic social teaching to major domestic and international issues, advocate effectively for genuine justice and peace, and build the capacity of the Church to act effectively in these areas. Mr. Dan Misleh (202) 541-3195.

Catholic Charities USA

Catholic Charities USA is the nation’s largest private social service organization. The network of 1,400 agencies and institutions, as well as concerned individuals, aims to reduce poverty, support families, and empower communities in the United States. Catholic Charities USA develops and supports the service and justice activities of the Parish Social Ministry network in eighty dioceses. Ms. Rachel Lustig (703) 549-1390.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops was established in 1970 as the Bishops' domestic anti-poverty, social justice program. Its two-fold mandate is to fund low-income controlled empowerment projects and to educate Catholics about the root causes of poverty within the context of the Catholic social tradition. CCHD programs are funded through an annual collection in parishes each year. Mr. Thomas Chabolla, Ms. Mary Wright, Ms. Donna Grimes (202) 541-3000.

Catholic Relief Services

Founded in 1943, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official international relief and development agency of the Roman Catholic community in the United States. CRS serves people in over 94 of the poorest countries in the world. Over 90% of all support goes directly to programming to help the poor. The U.S. Operations division links Catholic Relief Services to Catholics in the United States through education on global issues impacting the poor overseas, and providing opportunities to put faith into action. CRS works with dioceses, parishes, schools, universities, hospitals, and other faith-based organizations dedicated to serving the poor overseas. Ms. Kathy Brown, Mr. Tom Ulrich (410) 625-2220.
